Updated: Friday, March 7, 8:30 a.m.

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – A man was killed Thursday afternoon in an apparent industrial accident at the Harris Steel location at the corner of New Market Avenue and New Brunswick Avenue in South Plainfield.

Authorities investigating the incident closed New Market Avenue between South Clinton Avenue and New Brunswick Avenue.

South Plainfield Chief of Police James Parker released this statement:

"On March 6, 2014 at approximately 2:30 p.m., police responded to 1641 New Market Avenue, Bushwick Metals, on the report of an industrial accident. The initial report indicated that an employee was pinned between several steel beams and tractor trailer. The employee, who was identified as Robert Donohue, age 65, of Glen Gardner died from his injuries. A co-worker stated that he heard a loud bang when he noticed a stack of steel beams had fallen over, striking Donohue. Officials from the Occupational and Safety and Health Administration investigated the accident shortly after it occurred. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact Detective Lloyd McNelly at 908-226-7660."
