I am writing in response to the recent letter-to-the-editor by Mark Dunec (Where is Rodney?, January 4) in which the writer “blasts” me for my “silence” on the delay in bringing Hurricane Sandy relief legislation to the floor of the House of Representatives.
Mr. Dunec needs to be made aware that I have been working very closely with Governor Chris Christie, the House Appropriations Committee and my New Jersey colleagues since the storm to develop a House alternative that better targets assistance to New Jersey and New York families, businesses and towns. Indeed, it was my amendment, approved by the House last week, that will bring emergency funding up to the level requested by Governor Christie.
Some people in Washington give speeches. Some people in Washington work behind the scenes to actually get the job done: helping the victims of this massive storm.
