WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield High School’s Wind Ensemble was on of seven high school bands and orchestras selected to perform in this year’s National Band and Orchestra Festival at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fischer Hall on March 23.
This will be an all-weekend event for the wind ensemble. On Saturday, March 22, they will travel to New York City to participate in a clinic run by Timothy Mahr, the professor of music at St. Olaf College, and adjudicator at this year’s National Concert Band and Orchestra Festival. Then, on Sunday, the Wind Ensemble will play will play at Avery Fischer Hall at 1:45 PM. Their 25-minute set will include the songs “On the Quarter Deck” by Kenneth Alford, “Variants on a Medieval Tune by Norman Dello Joio” and “Wild Nights” by Frank Ticheli.
“Being selected to play at Avery Fischer Hall is a huge honor for me and the rest of the Westfield High School Wind Ensemble. This is going to be a unforgettable and once-in-a-lifetime experience for all of the Westfield High School Wind Ensemble members,” said junior Joey DeRosa.
