Violent Crime in Paterson Holds Steady in Summer 2013

PATERSON, NJ - Violent crime in the city this past summer occurred at levels virtually unchanged compared to Summer 2012.

According to statistics released by the Paterson Police Department, overall violent crime in the months of June, July and August of 2013 fell by six incidents, from 419 last year to 413 this year. There were nine homicides in those three months of 2013, two more than the previous summer.

Robberies in Paterson rose by 5.6 percent this summer, with 228 reported robberies compared to 216 in the summer of 2013. The one sector of violent crime that did go down in the city this summer was aggravated assault, which fell 10.5 percent to 170 assaults in Summer 2013.

The statistics do not reflect incidents in September. The current month has seen several shootings in the city.
