Students at Congregation Beth Israel Receive their own Prayer Books

Third graders in the Religious School at Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains received their own prayer books (siddurim) at a ceremony for their families on Sunday, March 9.  The students led some morning prayers and performed a play in which they taught lessons about their Hebrew names.  Rabbi George Nudell recited a blessing over the children and Elly Bauman, Education Director, presented the prayer books to the students in celebration of their learning to read and chant Hebrew.  The students had created personalized covers for their prayer books in January as part of a Family Education program.

Congregation Beth Israel’s award-winning Religious School offers classes from pre-school through 11th grade, as well as special needs instruction.  Third graders meet on Sunday and Wednesday for instruction in Hebrew language, Torah study, holidays and Mitzvot (doing good deeds).  Congregation Beth Israel’s Religious School also offers student-led prayer services, grade-specific family education programs and on-line learning opportunities.

For more information about the Religious School, contact Elly Bauman at 908-889-1830 or school@cbisp.org.  Congregation Beth Israel is located at 18 Shalom Way, Scotch Plains, NJ  (corner of Martine Avenue).
