SPARTA, NJ- It may not be a popular subject but with five weeks left of summer there are a few dates to get on the calendar before school begins again in September. Sparta's public schools have each scheduled an Open House for students and their family to be able to walk around and familiarize themselves with the building. For the younger students it can help to see where their classroom will be and other rooms such as the nurse’s office, cafeteria, playground, art and music rooms. The older students may want to practice their locker combinations and locate the best route between classes.
Alpine School will have Kindergarten Orientation on Wednesday, August 27 from 9 a.m. until 12:30. The AM session kindergarten students can come at 9:30 the PM students at 11:30. Most of the kindergarten teachers will be on hand to say hello along with the nurse and a Child Study Team member. There will also be a school bus there for the student check out. Session and teacher assignments should be sent to parents in the few weeks.
Alpine School’s first and second grade students will have their Open House Thursday, August 28 from 9 a.m. until noon. There will not be any program or teachers present. The new students will be encouraged to explore the building and find their classroom.
Principal Laura Trent will invite the third grade students to explore the Mohawk Avenue School on Tuesday, August 26 from 10 a.m. until noon.
The Helen Morgan School will have an Open House on Thursday, August 28. The fourth grade students are welcome from 9 until 11 a.m. The fifth grade students’ opportunity is from 1 until 2 p.m. Students are invited to acquaint themselves with the building and visit their classrooms.
Sparta Middle School is holding an Open House on Wednesday, August 27. The sixth grade students can come from 9:30 until 11 a.m., with seventh and eighth grade student invited from 1 to 2 p.m.
Finally Sparta High School’s Open House is scheduled for Thursday, August 28. From noon until 2 p.m. students and their families can walk through the building to find their classrooms and lockers.
With the exception of Kindergarten, there will be no formal program on these Open House days. The schools will be sending additional information home as the dates get closer.
