Retired Police Lieutenant Jeffrey Nafis Passed Away on Sunday

SPARTA, NJ-Sparta Township Police Department Chief of Police Ernest I. Reigstad announces with deep regret the passing of Lt. Jeffrey R. Nafis, retired.  Lt. Nafis, who for served 26 years as a member of the Sparta Township Police Department, passed away unexpectantly late yesterday afternoon at his home in Sparta of natural causes.

Nafis, a former Marine, was hired as Sparta Township Police Officer on February 18, 1986.  He was appointed to the Detective Bureau on September 1, 1991 where he later ascended to the rank of Detective Sergeant. 

Nafis was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on October 2, 1995 where he was assigned as the Administrative Commander. He served in this position until his retirement in 2012.

Visitation is to be held at the Goble Funeral Home 22 Main Street in Sparta on Wednesday, June 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. and then again from 7 to 9:00 p.m.  The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, June 26 at 10 a.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church located at 37 Newton Sparta Road in Newton.
