NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ -- The North Plainfield Office of Emergency Mangement has issued a flood warning for the entire borough, and has opened the Vermeule Community Center as a shelter. A flood warning means flooding is imminent, and that residents should avoid rising waters.
In a reverse-911 call to residents, Police Chief William Parenti warned residents to watch for flooding and if waters rose to their foundation to shut off utilities and evacuate.
If there are mandatory evacuations police will drive through neighborhoods using their loudspeakers to inform residents of the need to leave their homes and find separate shelter.
