NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for urban areas and small streams in Union County until 10 p.m. April 30.
According to the National Weather Service, rainfall rates are one-half to 1 inch per hour and even higher rates are possible. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on small creeks and streams and ponding of water in urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses and other poor drainage areas and low-lying spots.
The service warns people not to drive vehicles into areas where water covers the roadway, as the depth may be too great to allow cars to cross safely.
The total rainfall from the weather system could approach 5 inches between when the rain began Tuesday and when it is forecast to finally subside during the day on Thursday.
