MADISON, NJ - The Madison High School varsity baseball team finally got out on the diamond for its first two games of the season, although the Dodgers have yet to play a home game on their water-logged field.

After losing their opener to Morristown-Beard, 3-2, last week, Madison notched a 7-4 victory over Newark Academy on Saturday in the opening round of the Highlander Classic in Berkeley Heights at Gov. Livingston High School.

Winning pitcher Ryan Higgins threw six innings allowing three runs (just two earned) on four hits with four strikeouts. Tim Azzolini, Ian Weber, Gavin Wallace and J.P. Ralston each drove in runs when the Dodgers scored five times in the sixth inning to take a 7-3 lead.

Madison, after a full slate of regular-season games during this week, will return to Berkeley Heights to face GL in the championship game of the Highlander Classic at 2:30 p.m. next Saturday.
