The effects of the recent snow and ice storm are still being felt by residents of Lower Providence Township. From road closures to power outages, many of the impacts are crippling for the community.
As of the morning, 4,787 PECO customers in Lower Providence were still without power due to the ice storm.
“PECO states that full restoration is expected to take several days,” said the township’s website.
To help its residents, LP Township set up a “Comfort Station” at the township building.
It is open “from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to provide warmth and a place to charge cell phones, etc.” said the site.
The lack of power and dangerous road conditions, in many cases due to fallen branches, have forced Methacton schools into a third snow day this week. Many roads are impassible in the township.
River Road is open and Pine Road is “passable with caution” according to the township. The roads of Pawlings Circle, South Grange Avenue, West Mount Kirk Avenue, Eagleville and Visitation roads, and Sunyside between Highley and Eagleville are still closed. Additionally, Sweetgum and Smith roads are closed.
PECO still has not provided its customers with an estimated time of restored power. It asks that residents continue to call the emergency line at 800-841-4141, and NOT dial 9-1-1 to check on the status.
“This storm is creating a lot of damage and is having a major impact on our local electric system,” reported PECO in a Feb. 6 press release. “Most importantly, we want our customers to stay safe. Our crews work around the clock until service is restored to all customers as quickly and safely as possible.”
The energy corporation says it is unsure when power will return.
“With damage still occurring, it is too early to determine when service will be restored to all customers,” said the release. Based on the conditions and damage so far, we believe we will be able to restore service to most customers in the next few days. However, some customers in more heavily damaged areas could be without service into the weekend.”
