PATERSON, NJ - Edison Jaquez, founder of a New Jersey-based youth mentoring program, B-Men (http://www.bmenmentoring.org/) and BYOUtiful, spoke on Friday to students at Paterson Middle School.
Jaquez' mentoring program is geared towards today’s inner city men, 17 and older, to educate and create positive influences.Jaquez currently works at the Jewish Renaissance Foundation as a Program Coordinator to get kids off the streets and into the classroom by providing GED classes and construction education. He began to notice that after they graduated the GED program, many of the graduated still needed motivation and assistance to move forward in their careers and life in general.
Jaquez began the non-profit organization, B-Men, based in Perth Amboy, to continue to mentor and educate at-risk males through a six-week program. Classes vary week to week in a non-traditional setting and include topics such as resume building, financial management, college preparation, interviewing skills and more.
