SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) held its annual swim team banquet on April 24th at L’Affair. In addition to celebrating the 2013-2014 season, the evening commemorated the short-course and long course-records attained this year, congratulated the 12 graduating seniors on their achievements and wished them well in their post-FSPY careers.
The evening also heralded senior swimmer Sarah Cronin, a high school senior from Westfield who will attend Brown University next fall, as the recipient of the Aaron T. Moore Leadership Award. The honor highlights an individual who "through leadership, example and performance, has made an outstanding contribution to the FSPY Swim Team.” The award is given annually in honor of Aaron T. Moore, FSPY’s assistant age group swim coach since 2000 as a result of his ability to inspire and motivate young people in the sport of competitive swimming.
Coach Chris Karelus cited Sarah’s athletic ability, dedication to the sport, commitment to the team, and achievements as a competitive swimmer as key factors in distinguishing her to achieve this accolade.
