The residents of Lower Providence Township, along with much of the northeast, have long awaited for this day. It is FINALLY the first day of spring.
After a very lengthy winter, most are quite glad to see the new season arrive. And what better way to celebrate than with one local franchise? Trooper Rita’s is celebrating the first day of spring in the organization’s traditional way: with free water ice.
Located at 2810 W. Ridge Pike, next to Papa John’s, the Trooper Rita’s is open today until 9 p.m. Reopening on March 12, the business is happy to greet the season and its customers with a fan favorite.
The water ice here is made fresh, daily, and many flavors include real fruit, according to the Rita’s website. The store is also carrying the new flavors, recently added to the Rita’s menu. Starburst, the famed candy produced by Wrigley, lent its popular flavors to the Rita’s water ice. The local store now carries Starburst Cherry Ice, Starburst Orange Ice, and Starburst Wild Berry Ice amongst its numerous flavors.
According to the website, this is the 22nd annual celebration of the first day of spring.
“Every year Rita’s celebrates the First Day of Spring by giving away free Italian Ice,” said the corporate site. “That’s right, for over 20 years we’ve treated each and every guest to a free Italian Ice in the available flavor of their choice. It’s a Rita’s tradition. [It is] just our way of kicking off the season and spreading a little happiness.”
