MAPLEWOOD, NJ – Jazz radio station WBGO is hosting a free concert for kids this Saturday, Nov. 2, at 12:30 p.m. at Clinton Elementary School, 27 Berkshire Road, featuring the Victor Jones Orchestrio.
The one-hour show promises to be an engaging and interactive introduction to America’s art form, giving kids the opportunity to “learn about and enjoy the distinct qualities of jazz.”
Newark native Victor Jones and his Orchestrio will demonstrate the African-American tradition of call and response, having the children participate in a fun performance while learning about the history of drums in jazz and American music.
A few lucky children will even get the chance to go up on stage and play the drums, or their own instruments if they bring them.
Performing with Jones will be Dylan Meek on piano, Alex Blake on string bass and vocalist Taiko.
The performance will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the artists and a chance to win a door prize.
Tickets will be handed out in the lobby on the day of performance on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors open at noon. The concert is free and open to the general public but adults must be accompanied by a child. Learn more at www.wbgo.org/kids.
