Secaucus, NJ - Summer reading programs are rolling out across the nation, all linked with the theme “FIZZ, BOOM, READ!” And while each aims to help children maintain or improve reading skills during their school breaks, only a few can boast a teenaged T-Rex and his handler, along with a strolling musician, crooning educational tunes about science, as catalysts for that uptick in aptitude.
Field Station: Dinosaurs, the world-class family attraction that teaches kids about our world through the science and story of dinosaurs, hits the road this summer to celebrate the New Jersey Summer Reading Program. This week’s final stop on a 14-library tour is The Library of the Chathams, located at 214 Main Street, Chatham, on Aug. 28 at 10 a.m. Registration is not required.
“‘FIZZ, BOOM, READ!’ is a great summer reading program, and we’re proud to be a part of it,” said Guy Gsell, executive producer of Field Station: Dinosaurs. This one-of-a kind summer reading program tour features the Field Station’s own Dinosaur Troubadour for dinosaur story time, a sing-a-long and dance party. Visitors to these public libraries will then meet an unbelievably life-like, roaring, breathing, 15-foot juvenile T-Rex for a prehistoric interactive experience.
“It’s important to challenge kids and to keep them learning all summer long,” said Gsell. “At Field Station: Dinosaurs, that’s what we do. The history of paleontology is one of science’s great mystery stories—with intrigue, unexpected twists and brilliant detectives who crack the case. Of course, we’ll also be bringing along a walking, roaring T-Rex just to make things interesting.”
“Investors Bank is proud to support Field Station: Dinosaurs and New Jersey’s Summer Reading Program: ‘FIZZ, BOOM, READ!’,” said John Nietzel, Senior Vice President of Business Banking and Community Development at Investors Bank. “Both programs are investments in our children, and therefore investments in our future—two causes always worth supporting.”
About Field Station: Dinosaurs
Field Station: Dinosaurs is a world-class family attraction that combines cutting-edge science with the creative minds of great artists and teachers to create a one-of-kind experience that’s thrilling, educational and fun.
Set against the breathtaking natural backdrop of the New Jersey Meadowlands and nestled at the base of a 150 million year old rock formation, the Field Station is an oasis of natural wonder just nine minutes from New York City. Over 30 life-sized, realistic dinosaurs (including the 90 foot long Argentinosaurus) come to life thanks to the brilliant engineering of the world's leading roboticists and the imagination of our artists.
The story of the dinosaurs is vividly presented on 20 acres of wild, unpredictable woods, mysterious pathways and mountain trails. Scientists from the New Jersey State Museum have worked to ensure that the exhibition encompasses the latest theories and discoveries in the fields of paleontology, geology and environmental studies. Workshops, games and activities connect the story of the dinosaurs to our world today, giving new relevance to their lives and power to the tale of their extinction.
And at the center of it all is the fun, the joy and the wonder of dinosaurs. Our expedition takes every family on a shared adventure—full of mystery, surprise and a sense of awe.
