MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ – More than 750 local Cub Scouts from Union, Morris, Somerset and Middlesex counties have collected over 3,000 items for New Jersey soldiers currently deployed overseas. The scouts took part in this program while attending Watchung Cub Scout Day Camp located in the Watchung Reservation.

“Cub Scouting is about learning new skills that will help each boy develop into a well- rounded young man,” said camp director Debra Ardry.  “As one of our many activities, the Scouts had the opportunity to participate in weekly service projects. “

The supplies were passed on to Operation Jersey Cares, an organization that sends packages to our men and women to let them know “America” is behind their efforts. Throughout the six weeks of camp, the scouts collected over 3,000 items for the troops. The scouts also collected items for local animal shelters.  The Boy Scouts of America and Operation Jersey Cares work together year round to provide care packages to troops.
