BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Gov. Livingston boys lacrosse opened the season on Wednesday with a romp over Union City, 16-3, on away turf. Senior attackman Alex Lipnick with four goals and junior attackman Brian Hutton with five goals led the Highlanders in this victory.
Ryan Findeisen, Jessie Giambra, Tommy O'Sullivan, Anthony Wong and Jonathan Wong each contributed goals to add to the tally.
The Highlanders look to recover from a tough 2013 season (4-13) under the new leadership of Coach Chet Parlavecchio. Working on fundamentals during pre-season, "We want to be a tough, fundamentally sound lacrosse team, that competes every day," said Parlavecchio
Parlavecchio brings solid coaching experience to the team -- he played lacrosse for Delbarton School and Union College, coached at Millburn High School for three seasons and most recently was part of the New Providence Pioneers coaching staff.
The Highlanders' season opening win will stoke the players' drive, preparing them for the competition they face in the coming weeks.
Senior captain Alex Lipnick returns as a three year starter for Gov. Livingston. Lipnick led the attack with 40 goals and 24 assists in the 2013 season.
Throughout the pre-season, Lipnick has shown very sound knowledge of the game and has great play making ability, according to Parlavecchio.
Lipnick along with seniors Garrett O'Connor and Tommy O'Sullivan -- assume the leadership captain role by playing with a tough hard working ethic.
O'Connor is playing a new position this season, switching from attackman to midfield, which the new head coach feels better suits "his great combination of size and speed."
O'Sullivan, a returning starter who takes the face offs, is a highly motivated defender that brings toughness and experience to the field.
Hutton, a solid returning attackman for the Highlanders continued to improve in the off-season.
Junior Noah Boldt is the only returning close defenseman. According to Parlavecchio, he will lead the young defensive corp. Peter Kransey returns as goalie.
The Highlanders will be back in action in their season home opener against Old Bridge on Saturday, March 29 at 11 a.m.
