CHATHAM, NJ - The football schedule for Chatham is likely to change in 2014 after the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference votes on realignment in October.
"It is my understanding the conferences on a whole, the American and National divisions, will look different after this year," Chatham AD Bill Librera said.
Morristown-Beard is one of the school's being added to the NJAC football schedule for next year and that will require a realignment of the current divisions. Chatham, a member of the National Division, won't know how it will be affected by the change until enrollment numbers are announced in October.
Once the enrollment of all the schools in the conference are known, the divisions will be realigned according to size and location.
"A couple years ago, the Morristown-Beard football team didn't have enough players to field a team," Librera said. "They've built their numbers up, so now they're coming back in. In October there will be a vote (ADs and principals) on a proposal for new conferences. We're still a Group 3 school, but we might be going against different competition.''
Librera pointed out that the conferences are not sport-specific, so Chatham will be competing against the same schools in all sports once there is a realignment.
"We're still waiting for the numbers in October to come through," Librera said. "We'll be trying to congregate the schools so there is less of a difference in population."
