SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – The Carteret Ramblers used perfect free throw shooting and near perfect three point shooting to defeat South Plainfield 71-59 tonight in South Plainfield. Carteret was 18-18 from the foul line, and sank nine three point shots during the course of the game.
Carteret’s Jaquan Robertson led all scorers with 26 points. Robertson’s teammate Brandon Gilder chipped in another 15 points in leading the Ramblers to victory.
There were six lead changes early in the opening quarter of the game, but Carteret took a five point lead late in the first quarter and never looked back. South Plainfield ended the second quarter with a seven point flurry in the waning minutes of the half to bring the Tigers to within six at 27-33.
The Tigers would whittle away at the Ramblers lead, but would never get the game within six points in the second half. South Plainfield’s Chris Mathis would lead the Tigers in scoring with 21 points.
The Tigers begin the GMC Tournament on Saturday at home against Perth Amboy Vo-Tech.
