Captain Thomas Schafer Named Officer-In-Charge of Berkeley Heights Police Department

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Effective July 1, 2014, Captain Thomas Schafer has been named officer-in-charge of the Berkeley Heights Police Department.

Township Administrator Linda Cavanaugh has confirmed that Mayor Joe Bruno has accepted Chief Mike Mathis's resignation.

Mathis, who recently celebrated 29 years with the Berkeley Heights Police Force, was named Police Captain in March of 2010, officer-in-charge subsequent to Chief David Zagar's retirement in August 2010, and appointed Chief in October 2010.
