BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Judge Linda Cavanaugh will take a new position as Essex County Superior Court Judge after being appointed by Gov. Chris Christie.
Judge Cavanaugh had her hearing before the Judiciary Committee and was immediately confirmed by the full Senate said Berkeley Heights Mayor Joe Bruno. Judge Cavanaugh was among eight new judge appointments for Essex County -- breaking the stalemate between Gov. Chris Christie and the Democrats. Essex County remains 13 judges short.
David Cohen, former Berkeley Heights Mayor and Gov. Christie's former director of employee relations, was the only name absent from the the original list of nominees.
Judge Cavanaugh served as Berkeley Heights Township Administrator since June 2013. "Linda will be missed and her contributions to our Township were immeasurable. We wish her all the best," said Bruno in an announcement accepting her resignation.
