West Orange High School and SEC Establishes Mandatory Sports Rest Period Program

WEST ORANGE, NJ - West Orange High School Athletic Director Ron Bligh has announced that West Orange High School, in conjunction with other schools and Athletic Directors in the Super Essex Conference (SEC), is establishing a mandatory Summer Rest Period Program for all student athletes.
The majority of Athletic Directors in the SEC were in agreement that student athletes needed time to relax and enjoy a break from summer sports and training.
Several schools, including WOHS, have initiated the program this summer, and by the summer of 2015, the Summer Rest Period Program becomes mandatory for every member school in the SEC.
Due to camp commitments, two rest periods have been instituted at West Orange High School. Football and Cheerleading already had a rest period between July 26-August 3, and all other sports will have a rest period between August 2-10.
During these times, the Rest Period Program mandates will not allow student coaches or athletes on the campus of the high school for any athletic purpose. In addition, no school-sponsored scrimmages, league play or practice will take place involving any WOHS student-athlete or coach during the scheduled rest period.
Next year the WOHS Athletic Department will establish one nine-day period that will serve as the rest period for all teams.
