Union County Takes Action During Storm

UNION COUNTY, NJ--Following an afternoon conference call with the Union County Office of Emergency Management, Union County provided this update regarding its ongoing response to today's winter storm:
The National Weather Service forecast for Union County indicates between 6 to twelve inches of snow by end of the storm on Saturday for most, if not all, of Union County.
Good news--wind gusts have been downgraded to between 30 to 39 miles-per-hour.
Temperatures will dip in the 20s. With wind chill it could feel below zero.
As noted earlier, there were reports of power outages scattered throughout Westfield. No other outages have been reported as of yet.
For those in the PSE&G service area, PSE&G’s customer service number is 1-800-436-PSEG. Call this number to report power outages or downed wires.
For thosein the JCPL region, call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877)
The only report of power outage is from Westfield, which has scattered outages.
UNION COUNTY COLLEGE:
Due to weather conditions, all campuses of Union County College closed today, Feb. 8, 2013 at 12:30 p.m.
UC VO TECH
Due to weather conditions, all campuses of Vo Tech also closed today at 12:30p.m., and will remain closed tomorrow.
OEM, Public Safety
The Office of Emergency Management will partially activate its Emergency Operations Center facility this evening.
Parks and parks’ facilities remain closed, and special events are canceled.
The Trailside Summer Camp Lottery scheduled to begin on Saturday, Feb. 9, has been postponed due to the severe weather forecast for Feb. 8 and 9. The lottery has been rescheduled to begin at noon on Sunday, Feb. 10.
The Scouts have rescheduled the Klondike derby at the Watchung Reservation to next Saturday.
The Union County Clerk’s office at 300 North Avenue East in Westfield will be closed tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 9.
A Code Blue effort to bring homeless people into shelter will continue into the weekend.
Plows remain out plowing and salting roads.
