SUMMIT, NJ - U.S. News & World Report (USNWR) has again recognized Overlook Medical Center among the best hospitals in central New Jersey, and as a “Best Regional Hospital” for Neurology and Neurosurgery, as reported in the publication’s annual Best Hospitals list for 2014-15. The magazine also ranked Overlook Medical Center as a “High Performing” hospital for Gastroenterology & GI surgery, geriatrics and urology. The annual USWNR Best Hospitals rankings, now in its 25th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.
“The continued recognition by U.S. News & World Report affirms Overlook Medical Center’s status as a regional leader in neurology and neurosurgery,” said Alan Lieber, president, Overlook Medical Center and vice president, Atlantic Health System. “This honor also reflects the advances we have made in other specialties, such as digestive diseases, and our overall commitment to providing superior health care to our communities.”
As the premier center for neuroscience and stroke care in New Jersey, Overlook Medical Center has amassed the largest team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, and neuroscience nursing staff in the state. Overlook is a Level IV Epilepsy Center with the only magnetoencephalography (MEG) technology in New Jersey installed for clinical purposes. The Brain Tumor Center of New Jersey at Overlook offers vaccine trials and stereotactic radiosurgery with the CyberKnife®.
Concussion care and rehabilitation, pain management, spine and neck care, as well as dedicated research and care for memory disorders, dementia and movement disorders, are all programs at Overlook Medical Center that have increased in volume and resources over the last several years.
As a “Best Regional Hospital” Overlook Medical Center is also recognized as “High Performing” in the following specialties:
· Gastroenterology & GI Surgery
· Neurology & Neurosurgery
Throughout the last several years there have been significant enhancements to the digestive disease programs at Overlook, including the provision of innovative interventional endoscopy procedures, robotic surgery for rectal cancer, robotic surgery for pancreatic and liver cancer, state-of-the-art endoscopic ultrasound, and specialized genetic testing.
U.S. News & World Report publishes Best Hospitals to help guide patients who need a high level of care because they face particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition, or extra risk because of age or multiple health problems. Objective measures such as patient survival and safety data, adequacy of nurse staffing levels, and other data largely determined the rankings in most specialties.
The specialty rankings and data were produced for U.S. News by RTI International, a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, NC. Using the same data, USNWR produced the state and metro rankings. The rankings are available at http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals, and will appear in the USNWR “Best Hospitals 2015” guidebook, available in August.
