SUMMIT, NJ - Stony Hill Players will be performing Mozart’s comedic masterpiece, The Marriage of Figaro”, sung in English and set in modern day New Jersey. This timeless opera has been described by critics as “so engrossing, you almost forget you’re watching an opera.”
The opera opens with Figaro, the trusted advisor to a senator, preparing for his wedding to Suzanna, a member of the senator’s staff. The Senator has tired of his own wife, and is scheming to obtain the favors of Susanna, while forcing Figaro to marry another. Meanwhile, the Senator’s wife, aware of his deceitfulness, conspires with Susanna and Figaro to expose the Senator’s plans, and lead the wayward husband back to his faithful wife. Mozart's music, played masterfully by a full chamber orchestra, elevates the hilarious story from mere comedy into a triumph.
