SPARTA, NJ- Beginning on or about Monday, June 2 the small bridge over the Wallkill River on Main Street will be closed for repair. Officially named Bridget Q-06, this is a section of Main Street near to the intersection of Glen and Station Roads between the STS Tire and Auto Spa businesses and the Municipal building.
The steel road plates under the asphalt are to be reset, according to the traffic advisory issues by the county Department of Engineering and Planning in Newton. This section of roadway will be closed until the project is completed. Anticipate date of completion is Friday, June 6.
Traffic will be detoured through Town Center Drive; the road into the new Stop and Shop, Lakeland Bank complex. From there, cars will travel via Route 517, also known as the Sparta Bypass. Access to the Sparta Township Municipal Building will remain open.
This is an interim repair until the bridge can be completely replaced. The estimate age of the bridge is over 80 years. The current expectation is that the bridge will be completely replaced in the next five to six years.
