BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The public dedication ceremony of the Peppertown Clock is set to take place on Saturday, July 12 at 10 a.m. in celebration of the newest landmark - bringing together the past, present and future of Berkeley Heights at Peppertown Park.
The Beautification Committee honors the clock face sponsors including Dean's Greens Nursery, Berkeley Development - The Mae Family, Summit Medical Group and The Connell Company; the 100 plaque sponsors; benefactors; and the true community effort involved.
Catherine Martino, a lifelong resident of Berkeley Heights, will do the honor of cutting the celebratory ribbon. Martino grew up in the farmstead that once occupied Peppertown Park.
Light refreshments will be served with music entertainment.
The Beautification Committee has worked the past year and a half to raise funds and facilitate the installation of the clock. "As we received these heartfelt donations to honor family names and businesses - I sensed the town pride of being part of this newest landmark in Berkeley Heights." said Midge Vicendese, Beautification Committee member.
Downtown Berkeley Heights is primed and the future is emerging said Julie Lloyd, Beautification Committee member. Many new businesses are opening their doors along Springfield Avenue - the landscape improvement, pedestrian friendly streetscapes and local patron support is essential.
This landscape criteria will create a visual impact to draw new businesses and visitors alike to downtown Berkeley Heights. "Our aim is for downtown improvements to have an historic, traditional feel that will last through decades," said Town Council President Jeanne Kingsley.
"Berkeley Heights is poised to really move forward," said Lloyd, "and the Peppertown Clock has set the pace in motion - making our future plans and vision for Downtown Berkeley Heights a reality."
Peppertown Park is located at the corner of Plainfield and Sherman Avenues across from the Train Station. In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Town Hall, 29 Park Avenue, Berkeley Heights.
Members of the Beautification Committee include: Kerry Blasch, Rick Froio, Jeanne Kingsley, Julie Lloyd, Ron Loria, Bobbie Peer, Tom Pirone, Jamie Ronga and Midge Vicendese.
