Summer is time to have fun, relax, and take a break. However, it’s also time to help your child to maintain their hard-earned educational and social gains while having fun. Come listen to our panel of experts share techniques and strategies to keep the progress going over the summer. The meeting will feature a brief overview from our panelists in their areas of expertise and plenty of time for an interactive Q & A.
About Our Speakers and their Areas of Expertise
Joelle Achilarre, Fourth Grade Teacher, Franklin School:
Ms. Achilarre will focus on reading, writing, and math. For reading, she will speak about increasing stamina and fluency, comprehension and inference. For writing, she will give you strategies to get your child writing narratives and stories. For math, she will focus on fact fluency, measurement, and skill building.
Jessica Lewis Styler, Speech-Language Therapist, Franklin School:
Ms. Styler will speak about fun ways to develop oral motor skills and how to work on articulation through game play. She will address social skills and language developments goals for camp and the playground.
Natalie Smith-Zuzovsky, Occupational Therapist, Franklin and Roosevelt Schools:
Ms. Smith-Zuzovsky will share fun exercises to increase your child's fine motor skills. She will also address effective strategies to increase attention and sensory regulation.
Scott Matthews, Occupational Therapist, Intensive Therapeutics:
Mr. Matthews will focus on fine motor skills, sensory motor skills and recreational activities. He will discuss summer camp, bike riding, and sports groups.
Beth Richardson, Physical Therapist, Westfield School District:
Ms. Richardson will speak about building strength and mobility while at the playground, beach, or camp. She will share the benefits of practicing yoga or creating a home exercise schedule.
