Police Pursue Suspected Stolen Van from Morris County into West Essex; Suspects Apprehended

WEST ESSEX, NJ - Monday night, a high speed pursuit took police on a chase of a white work van with alledgely stolen plates. Beginning at 11:32 p.m., police were told to be alert for a van which had left East Hanover towards Parsippany and was travelling east on Route 80. It quickly made its way over to Bloomfield Avenue and local police trailed the van as it turned left onto Mountain Avenue into North Caldwell.

At that time, the driver left the vehicle in the vicinity of the homes near Ferndale Road and headed off into the woods. The police described the subject as wearing a one-piece tan jumpsuit and missing one shoe after a shoe was found on the ground.
At the same time period, a second person connected to the pursuit was taken into custody by Montville Police. That person was described as a male wearing a blue jumpsuit. He was detained for questioning.
By 12:05 a.m., the police were able to locate the second individual in the vicinity of Mountain Road and take both men - Adin S. Laboy, 29, of Irvington and Fernando Santana, 35, of Newark - into custody. Drug paraphanalia was found in the vicinity of the abandonded van as well and small bags of drugs were also believed to have been thrown from the vehicle as it was traveling east on Bloomfield. Avenue. Caldwell, North Caldwell and West Caldwell police assisted in the apprehension of the suspects.
The van was originally reported stolen out of West Orange. The two suspects were brought to the Morris County jail and bail for them was set at $20,000 each.
