MONTCLAIR, NJ – Pedal Montclair, the newest bike shop on the scene in Montclair, celebrated its Grand Opening Saturday. Montclair residents and business owners Louis and Andrea Cederberg celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held at 15 Midland Ave. among a full house of family, friends, customers and elected officials.
Upon entry, guests were given free raffle tickets and toward the close of the event, a bicycle and supplies were raffled off to attendees.
Having worked for over a decade repairing and building bicycles, Louis thought it was a natural progression to open his own shop. The Cederbergs launched a soft opening in July and already have a lineup of customers that come from near and far to bring their bikes to Louis.
“I’m really impressed with the selection. Even though I live in Pennsylvania, I spend a lot of time here in Montclair and I will be dropping my bike off here for a tune-up pretty soon," said Rick Rawson, a customer who lives in Pennsylvania. Rawson came to Montclair to visit his girlfriend and says that he brought her bike to Pedal Montclair last week. Rawson added, “We have already brought business to them. One of our friends bought a bike here just this past week and my girlfriend’s bike is in here for a little bit of a tune-up.”
“He has a following because he’s a master bicycle mechanic. That’s what has helped us a lot and separates us. He’s (Louis) known for service and that’s how we knew we were going to succeed,” said Andrea of her husband, Louis.
Specializing in Professional Bike Repair, bike fittings, accessories and sales for all types of riders and catering to the growing community of Montclair commuters, Louis and Andrea express that Pedal Montclair’s goal is to provide the community with top quality service and sales while keeping Montclair green.
The Cederbergs have stated that Pedal Montclair is a perfect fit since Montclair is becoming bike friendly with newly painted "sharrows", more bike rack parking, and even public transportation that allows cyclists to transport their bike with them.
Pedal Montclair offers a full range of services from bike repair, sales to free water. “I’ve been in Montclair for a long time now and the bicycle aspect of how the town commutes will allow my business to strive. We want a little more of a community-based feel where you can come in and feel welcome and we’ll have parts or accessories that will be catered to them. You just don’t have to be an athlete to be in our shop and enjoy it. I have a lot of clients that just enjoy our quality of work and now we’re doing it for ourselves. I have been repairing bikes for over fifteen years,” said Louis.
Louis continued, “We offer bicycle fittings to make sure your bike is fitted to you properly and then we would have suggestions on what you would need to do to make your cycling experience better for you. We have a knowledgeable staff with quick turnaround.”
Andrea added that they have received a great deal of community support. “Bike & Walk Montclair has reached out and they have been very kind to us giving us lots of suggestions,” said Andrea. Also present at the Grand Opening was Assemblyman Thomas Giblin, Mayor Robert Jackson, 3rd Ward Councilor Sean Spiller, and a host of others.
