MILLBURN, NJ - The annual Investor’s Bank President’s Cup Night Race drew hundreds of runners and spectators to Downtown Millburn on Monday night. This was the 35th running of the popular 5K race which is put on by the Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce.
Chris Johnson of Berkeley Heights was this year’s winner, crossing the finish line with a time of 14 minutes and 52 seconds.
“I was actually watching the U.S. play in the World Cup right up until race time, so I went out a little cautiously because of that, not having a real proper warm-up,” Johnson said. “But one of my teammates got out and set a quick pace and I was able to take advantage of that and really rolled in the second half of the race.” Johnson runs with the Garden State Track Club.
The top female runner was Maria Danna of Kenvil, who also runs with the Garden State Track Club.
This popular 5K run attracts more than 1,400 runners each year and follows a route along Essex Street and Millburn Avenue. A final tally of runners was not ready as of this writing, as registrations were taken right up until race time.
Investors Bank was the major corporate sponsor for the race, along with The Sneaker Factory, the Mall at Short Hills, Charlie Brown’s Fresh Grill, Peerless Beverage Company, Samuel Adams and Saucony.
