On September 26, 2013, a resident of Main Street reported that her vehicle had been damaged by an unknown individual. The complainant advised the Madison Police that the driver’s side of her vehicle had various scratch marks on it that were caused by some sort of sharp object. The complainant advised that the vehicle was parked in the lot behind the area of 91 Main Street. There were no witnesses available. On September 26, 2013 at approximately 10:15 pm, Ptl Luis Goncalves arrested 26 year old Martin Pasternak of Harding. Goncalves stopped Pasternak for an alleged moving violation. During the investigation, a records check determined that there was an active warrant for Pasternak’s arrest from the Belleville Municipal Court in the amount of $1,000. It was also determined that Pasternak was in allegedly in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to maintain lane, and possession of drugs in a motor vehicle. He was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.
On September 27, 2013, a Madison resident reported that his 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee had been stolen from the Cook Plaza Parking Lot located on Cook Avenue in Madison. There were no witnesses available at the time of the report. The investigation has been turned over to the Madison Police Detective Bureau. On September 28, 2013 at approximately 1:30am, Ptl. Matthew Mirabella arrested 28 year old William Barry of Chatham, NJ. Mirabella stopped Barry’s vehicle for several alleged moving violations. While speaking with Barry, Mirabella detected an odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath. Mirabella then had Barry perform field sobriety tests and determined that Barry could not operate a motor vehicle safely. Barry was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Failure to Maintain Lane. Barry was released to a family member pending a court appearance.
On September 28, 2013, at approximately 2:00pm, Ptl Matthew Mirabella arrested 23 year old Breanne Palmieri of Madison, NJ. Mirabella responded to the area of Palmieri’s residence on report that she allegedly had not paid a cab fare. When Mirabella made contact with Palmieri, she became aggressive and continued to refuse to pay for the cab fare. Mirabella attempted to place her under arrest for the violation and she allegedly began resisting arrest. Palmieri was charged with theft of services and resisting arrest. She was released on her own recognizance pending a court appearance.
On September 29, 2013 at approximately 7:00pm, Ptl Vincent Dellavalle arrested 38 year old Stephen Bird of Madison, NJ, 52 year old Dina Carter of Orange, NJ, and 38 year old Peter Sermabeikian of Jamaica Plain, MA. Dellavalle responded to the area of Sayre Court on report of an occupied suspicious vehicle. Upon making contact with the individuals in the vehicle, Dellavalle observed items of drug paraphernalia in plain view. Sgt James Cavezza and Ptl Anthony Maccario responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. During the investigation, it was determined that each individual was in possession of crack cocaine, heroin, various controlled prescription pills, and various items of drug paraphernalia. Bird was charged with Possession of a Schedule I Narcotic, Possession of a Schedule IV Narcotic, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance without its Proper Container, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Sermabeikian was charged with two counts of Possessing a Schedule I Narcotic, Possession of a Schedule II Narcotic, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance without its Proper Container, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Carter was charged with Possession of a Schedule II Narcotic, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance without its Proper Container, Possession of a Prescription Legend without being Lawfully Prescribed, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of CDS in a MV and Driving While suspended. Bird and Sermabeikian were lodged in the Morris County Correctional facility in lieu of $10,000 bail, while Carter was lodged in lieu of $5,000 bail. Court appearances are pending for all parties arrested.
On September 30, 2013 at approximately 0130 hrs, a resident of Prospect Place reported a motor vehicle burglary. According to the resident, a dark colored Infiniti pulled up to his residence. A male exited the vehicle and approached three cars parked in the driveway. The male pulled on the door handles of two cars and was unsuccessful in gaining entry. The suspect was then able to enter a third vehicle, a 2005 Chrysler four door color silver, which was unlocked and parked between the other two cars. The resident observed the suspect in his vehicle and shouted at him. The suspect then entered into the passenger side of the Infiniti and drove off. The suspect was described as wearing a dark hoodie and possibly a mask. No further description is available and there were no other witnesses available at the time of the incident. On October 1, 2013 at approximately 10:00pm, Sgt James Cavezza arrested 21 year old Daniel Levine of Mount Arlington, NJ. Cavezza responded to the area of Summer Hill Park on report of an ATV riding on the property. Once inside the park, Cavezza observed the ATV which had two occupants on it and attempted to stop it. The ATV turned its lights off and proceeded to flee from the park at a high rate of speed. Cavezza then located the passenger of the ATV, Levine, walking on Ridgedale Avenue. Levine allegedly refused to provide Cavezza with the information of the driver of the ATV. Levine was charged with hindering the apprehension of another. He was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.
On October 2, 2013 at approximately 3:00pm, a student resident of Drew University reported that her wallet had been taken while she was eating at the cafeteria. The victim was later informed by her bank that her debit card had been used. There were no witnesses available during the time of the theft. On October 3, 2013 at approximately 11:30pm, Sgt. James Cavezza arrested 38 year old Laura Goldstein of Chatham, NJ. Cavezza stopped Goldstein’s vehicle for an alleged equipment violation. While speaking with Goldstein, Cavezza detected an odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath. Cavezza then had Goldstein perform field sobriety tests and determined that Goldstein could not operate a motor vehicle safely. Goldstein was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated within 1,000 feet of a School, Careless Driving, and Headlamps Required. Goldstein was released to a friend pending a court appearance.
On October 5, 2013 at approximately 9:00am, Ptl Matthew Mirabella arrested 54 year old James Mastrobuono of Madison, NJ. Madison patrols responded to Mastrobuono’s home on report of an assault. Upon arrival at the residence, patrols contacted Mastrobuono who had just been in an altercation with a family member. Mastrobuono was charged with simple assault and was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.
