Wednesday, August 13, 2014 • 7:50am
MONTCLAIR, NJ -The Essex County Division of Senior Services is offering all income eligible Montclair residents, 60 years and older, farmers' market vouchers for the 2014 season. Vouchers will be distributed on Tuesday, August 19, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Montclair Health Department, located at 205 Claremont Avenue, Montclair.
The vouchers were made available by the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) which awarded the grants to the State of New Jersey. The goal of the grant is to assist governments in providing low-income seniors with coupons that can be exchanged for eligible foods (fruits, vegetables, honey, and fresh-cut herbs) at farmers' markets, roadside stands, and community-supported agriculture programs.
Applicants should be prepared to produce valid identification, as well as proof of income, (Income Eligibility: Annual Income of $21,590 or less, OR $1,800.00 monthly or less, for a single applicant).
As in the past, approved residents will receive four (4) $5.00 coupons, which can be redeemed for fresh fruit and vegetables only, at farmers markets in New Jersey, through November 2014. The Montclair Farmer's Market also accepts SNAP and WIC.
