SUMMIT, NJ - Group 3 Champions, the Summit High School Boys Tennis Team will open play in the NJSIAA/USTA/New Balance Tournament of Champions against Pingry May 27 at Mercer County Park. The match begins at 2 p.m.
Coach Pete Tierney and his team brought home Summit's first title since 2002, and the third in the program's existence.
The Hilltoppers Christian Barrett, despite facing four match points in the second set, clawed back to win the second and third set to key a 3-2 win over Northern Highlands in the Group 3 final. In addition to Barrett's victory, Summit picked up points from senior captain Maxwell McDonald in first singles, and Kia Fatahi in the third singles flight.
Previously, Summit topped Wall, 4-1, in the semifinals to reach the final.
The second round of the T of C will be played on May 28 at 2 p.m. with the finals set for May 29 at 2 p.m. All matches will be held at Mercer County Park.
