SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - Heavy rains throughout the day have caused the flooding of Green Brook, a typically calm stream that runs next to Route 22. As a result, Route 22 westbound lanes have been closed passed the intersection of Union Avenue and Route 22 near McDonald’s in Scotch Plains.
As of 6:30 p.m., motorists traveling westbound on the interstate highway are being detoured at Union Avenue through Johnston Drive. Heavy traffic should be anticipated in this area.
According to Weather.com, Scotch Plains has already accumulated nearly two inches of estimated precipitation with more rainfall anticipated into the night. A flood warning is in effect in the area through 10 p.m. tonight. Further, Weather.com has advised a flood watch through early Thursday afternoon.
Additionally, Route 22 Field (pictured in the gallery) at the corner of Union Ave. & New Providence Rd. is starting to look more like a pond as flooding from the brook has submerged the Little League Field.
