Thursday, May 1, 2014 • 2:35pm
EDISON, NJ – Manavi is hosting its Annual Community Dinner at the Akbar Restaurant at 21 Cortlandt Street on May 3 at 6:30 p.m. The Annual Dinner recognizes Manavi volunteers, supporters and staff and offers time to reflect on the successes of the past years and reaffirm their commitment to ending violence against South Asian Women.
Established in 1985, Manavi, which means “primal woman” in Sanskrit, was the first organization of its kind in the United States to specifically address the unmet needs of South Asian women victims of violence.
Manavi’s programs involve direct service provisions for women survivors of violence, grassroots organization for social change within the community, and informing mainstream institutions and organizations in the United States about how to better serve South Asian women.
Through its work, Manavi ensures that women of South Asian descent in the United States can exercise their fundamental right to live a life of dignity that is safe and free from violence.
The funds raised through the dinner enable Manavi to run some of its integral programs, such as Ashiana, Manavi's safe home.
