Be still, and know that I am God!
Psalm 46:10 NLT
Time. It is a precious commodity. A non-renewable resource of which there never seems to be enough. We wish for more; we spend our share rushing and working and striving. There is so much to be done and so little time in which to do it.
In the midst of all this dizzying busyness, a whisper tugs at our hearts. A tender voice beckons beneath the maddening calls to our attention. Whose is this voice which calls among all others? It is a sound which, with one word, placed each star in the heavens. One utterance hushed the winds and tamed the waves.
God is calling. He whispers your name from within you. Does He demand your energy? Does He desire yet another task which He piles with all your others? No. Rather, this voice which breathed the first breath into the very first man wishes to revive your weary heart. The One who calmed the wind and waves desires to calm the storm in you. His wish is to slow your clock and quiet your busy mind. “Be still,” He whispers, “And know that I am God”. In those words, He states His case: When you find rest in His arms, you will know His strength. You will experience His peace. He will calm your seas and restore your soul. After all, He wound up the very first pulse of time.
